1. Maths: Number and place value- Counting
- During last week students worked in small groups or with a partner to solve problems and answer inquiry questions. Our focus continued on place value and skip counting. We played games (sort and fill in the missing numbers), and created a place value house. Students participated in ''Tug of War''( I love maths- I'm not a big fan of math) and reflected on their understanding of place value concept.

2. Language
- Last week students started to work on Words their way, finished first writing sample and took part in guided reading.
- Words their way help students grow their vocabulary and develop their spelling skills in a way that caters for their differentiated learning needs. We are using teacher-directed activities and student-centred approach. Those activities help students to engage in a variety of sound, pattern and meaning activities, by sorting pictures and words.
- Personal Narrative Writing Sample. Students began to plan a story of a special time, next they wrote a draft of a story and on Friday, they edited and revised their work using pictures and text.
- To assess student writing we are using 6+plus 1 traits of writing. The Six Traits of writing are Voice, Ideas, Presentation, Conventions, Organization, Word Choice, and Sentence Fluency. Teachers use these Traits to help students learn the specific skills necessary to make their writing really work.
- Ideas: The meaning and development of the message.
- Organization: The internal structure of the piece.
- Voice: The way the writer brings the topic to life.
- Word Choice: The specific vocabulary the writer uses to convey meaning.
- Sentence Fluency: The way the words and phrases flow throughout the text.
- Conventions: The mechanical correctness of the piece.
- Presentation: The overall appearance of the work.
Guided reading is always fun. Teacher's role is simple, we support and guide students during reading and help them use different strategies to read the text.
3. MAP practice
- Language (Reading) will take on Monday 9 September and Math on Monday 16 September. Please let me know if you have any questions.
4. W.O.R.D.
- I'm happy to see that students are improving communication skills during W.O.R.D. time. Last Tuesday, we were reading 'Finding Nemo' and students showed engagement and enthusiasm for the story. Afterwards, we still had time for individual reading. Parents are welcome to come and read to us next week (Thursday 12 September @12:15)
5. UOI
- During our inquiry time, students shared information about Well-being, inquired into the concept of connection (How is it connected with other things?) and learned about breathing techniques.

6. Reflection (Discussion dice)
- Reflection is part of our daily routines. Sometimes we play games, other time we fill in an exit slip, sometimes we just share our thoughts and concerns.
