Grade 1 visited Grade 2 today

and Students from EY3 visited Grade 1

Today we had a very exciting day full of interesting activities.

We started the day by setting a happy tone to our learning.
What would make you smile:))today?
Those are the student's answers:

  • break
  • friends
  • puzzle
  • play all day
  • no learning today
  • challenge
  • art

Our next activity was finding out - What does it mean thinking outside the box?
Students formed two circles, each student faced another student. Some students asked questions some answered.
What does it mean to think outside the box?

After a warm discussion, we said it's time to think outside THE BOX MONDAY!

Complete the picture ...It's not a fish ...
and create glasses using paper. Those are the two task students had to complete.

Students divided themselves into 3 groups.
Our first group joined Open Inquiry where students could direct their own learning entirely independently.
The second group joined Guided Inquiry, where the teacher guided the students and encouraged them to dig deeper with their observations. The last group was part of Structured Inquiry which identifies students who are less confident and less inclined to take initiative. On the end of the activities, students were engaged and have shown creative thinking and independence.

Great creation !!!

It was a great Monday...

Maths and Literacy Challenge

   Home Activity Sheet

In the classroom this week ...

In our class students are using comfortable seating throughout the day.
On the photo below you will see students playing a game with directions. They have to follow instructions and draw specific pictures on their boards. It is a similar game to Battle Ship and something that you can play with your child during the weekend.

Group work: Probability
Group 1 worked on something that will absolutely happen ( certain)

  • There will be animals at the Zoo.
  • Spring will come after Winter.
  • There will be 12 months in the year.

Group 2 -worked on something that will never happen (impossible)

  • October will come after January
  • A lion will be a student in our classroom.
  • There will be 9 days in a week.

Recording facts from the group work

Amauro shared with the class some of his ideas about probability.

Here are his examples:

  • Watch the movie at the cinema.
  • Play date with my friends.
  • Draw a jet.
  • Go fishing.
  • Go to Cape town for a weekend.
  • Go skydiving.
  • Sneak to the trampoline park at night.
  • Drive with no fuel.
Can you match the probability words to those sentences? ( certain/possible, impossible, likely, unlikely, equal chance)

Seesaw has great activities to support our spelling patterns (word sort )

Other activities on Seesaw regarding spelling pattern

Each day, students had a new task to do regarding the spelling words.
Here are some examples of students creations.

Students created a bridge for pedestrians using Lego. Practicing communication skills and creativity with a partner.

Sharing time.

  • Dance by Lauren
  • Song by Aishe
  • Invention task- Bat catcher by Zara
