Measurement continue

We discussed different tools and units of measurement.
One of them was a scale. Image result for scale

Japie said that his mom weighs all his food.

''When you have diabetes, your diet is a vital part of your treatment plan. Of course, you know what you're eating — a turkey sandwich, a glass of skim milk, a sugar-free fudge pop. But do you pay attention to the details, such as calories, total carbohydrates, fiber, fat, salt and sugar? Reading food labels can help you make the best choices''.

Keep in mind that ingredients are listed in descending order by weight. The main (heaviest) ingredient is listed first, followed by other ingredients used in decreasing amounts.Consider carbs in context

If your meal plan is based on carbohydrate counting, food labels become an essential tool.
Look at total carbohydrates, not just sugar. Evaluate the grams of total carbohydrates — which includes sugar, complex carbohydrates and fiber — rather than only the grams of sugar. If you zero in on sugar content, you could miss out on nutritious foods naturally high in sugar, such as fruit and milk. And you might overdo foods with no natural or added sugar, but plenty of carbohydrates, such as certain cereals and grains.

All the information above is from Reading food labels.

So here are some photos...

Our second tool was a thermometer.
We visited Ms. Urte's science class and she told us a lot about the temperature.

Revising diagraphs Sh, Ch, Th

We divided ( new mathematical word for us)our class into two groups. Team Red and Team Blue were challenging themselves.
Ms.Gien was my assistant for the day and she recorded all the information on the flipchart.
Students from each team could choose a word and presented without talking to the rest of the team members.

Here are some photos...

Ms. Gien was a great help

                                                                  'ch''
                Lauren - Cheese

                    'th'
               Amauro - throne

It was another great opportunity to work as a team.

Students can search for the 'sh'ch'th' diagraphs in the newspapers, magazines or in storybooks.

There are plenty of activities on Spelling City as well.

Kind Regards
Ms.Beata

Thank you to Ms. Jan and Mr. Bill for showing us a cool tool.

Mr. Bill Walker will come and visit our class next week. Students will be able to use hammers and nails. How exciting...more to come.
We have to say goodbye once again...

David and Popyeni, we wish you all the best in your new school.

How We Organise Ourselves

Image result for unit of inquiry how we organise ourselves

This was an exciting and very interesting unit. Students worked in groups and with a partner. Some of them loved it some of them found difficult.
The goal was to work together in a group to identify and solve real-life problems in our environment. Students showed their understanding of how communication and cooperation can facilitate problem-solving and make our lives easier. They applied and transferred this understanding in the practical suggestions for solving the problems in the environment around them.

Students findings are recorded and saved on Seesaw. Photos and the process of cooperation and communication were captured by snapshots.

We used Six Thinking Hats to help us solve many problems. Six Thinking Hats was created by Edward de Bono.
De Bono's Six Thinking Hats is a powerful technique for looking at decision making from different points of view.
A "thinking cap" is an imaginary hat that helps you focus on your thinking.
This exercise asks students to think about a problem from six different perspectives which are represented by different colored hats. It forces the student to move outside their thinking style and helps to get a more rounded view of a situation, as they have to consider multiple perspectives before making a full judgment or decision on the problem. This activity can be applied to any subject and grade level discussion related to a problem, decision to be made, or issue. It can be used in small groups or as a full class activity.

Task 1 :
Students worked in small groups to solve this problem. 'Ms. Beata's grid book is finished. How can you solve this problem?'.

Image result for unit of inquiry After collaborating with each other and selecting the best idea to solve the problem student tested the idea and evaluate the results.
 Group 1: Amauro,Ohole and David

Red thinking hat: No book, no work more free choice for us
Black thinking hat: No school work, no learning, This is not good.

Group 2: Madeline, Beritha , Lauren, and Eli-Aishe
Green thinking hat: After debating, they decided to look in my storeroom.

Group 3: Zara, Gabriel, Azmat, and Fudheni
Green thinking hat:  We will make a grid book for Ms.Beata.
Yellow thinking hat: We will add more pages and it will be enough for all students.

Group 4: Gien, Japie, and Evandro

White thinking hat- They focused on facts and didn't waste time. They worked independently. I didn't even have a chance to take a photo.
They got the book from the Grade 2 teacher.

 Task 2:
Task 2 was a mathematical problem. Students worked with a partner. We focused on:
Odd Todd - odd numbers and Even Steven- even numbers

Task 3: Unit assessment
Students worked with a partner(s).
They had different problems.
all groups used thinking hats as a tool.

Gr 1: Japie, Madeline, and Lauren
Their group problem was: The arms are twice as long as your legs.

Gr 2: Fudheni and Evandro
Their group problem was: What if the wheel had never been invented.

Gr.3 Beritha and Gien
Their group problem was: You go to school all night instead of all day.

Gr 4. Ohole and Eli-Aishe
Their group problem was: You can sleep with your eyes open.

  Gr 5. Gabriel and David
Their group problem was: Money does not exist.

    Gr 7. Amauro and Cayden
Their group problem was: You can bring your pets to school every day.

Gr 8. Zara and Azmat
Their group problem was:
Everyone has the same colour hair.

As you see students were busy using thinking and communication skills, Learner Profile Attributes, and Attitudes- Open-minded and Cooperation.

We are successfully reaching to the end.
Our tools during this unit were definitely a teamwork, Learner Profile Attributes, and Attitudes.

Please find time next week to discuss the photographs on the blog. It will be a good reflection for all of the students. I'm sure you will understand better your child's work. You are welcome to ask me questions related to this unit task.

Kind Regards
Ms.Beata
